Google fires up educational ads on online privacy in the US
Google has sponsored a widespread public education campaign in the United States including newspaper articles and billboards in New York and Washington subways as well as, online ads on online privacy and security.
The ‘Good to Know’ campaign distils the potentially complex issues of online safety, what data is collected and held online and by Google into plain English i.e. easy to understand messages.
This type of public education campaign is very similar to the key messages that have been developed here in Australia in relation to online privacy and that appear at the www.youronlinechoices.com.au website.
On the Australian front the Australian Best Practice Guideline for Online Behavioural Advertising is currently being reviewed so any comments or views are welcome including whether the Guideline goes far enough in addressing key online privacy issues and whether it should be extended or its focus changed.
